In response to Haggai's exhortation, the people responded positively. Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the whole remnant "obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him" (Hag. 1:12). The people quickly resumed construction of the temple (1:14-15).
